FALL BACK INTO HEALTHY HABITS

Despite the sudden spike in warm weather, it’s finally feeling fall-ish. We’re back to school, back to schedules, and slowly getting back in a groove. But if you feel like you’re lagging after summer, you’re not alone! When it comes to hitting the restart button on your fitness routine, “getting back into the swing of things can be difficult,” offers Corner Studio trainer Lindsay Perrigan. She recommends “getting prepared” to commit to a healthy habit, like marking exercise on your calendar as you would an appointment. Lindsay says, “You mark down your hair appointments, so why should working out be any different?” Fair enough! She adds, “If you’re new to working out, start with small goals, like scheduling one class a week, then adjust as you move along.”

Here, more tips for weaving workouts back into your life.

Plan your week.

“On Sunday night, set up your workout week,” advises Corner trainer Cara Cooley Steiner, whose Cardio Dance and Sculpt classes will “leave you drenched in sweat with the ultimate post-class euphoria.” “Sign up, set aside cute workout outfits—whatever it takes to get you motivated to move!”

Never miss a Monday.

The best way to regain control after a busy weekend is to start the week with your favorite way to move. “Showing up is all you have to do,” offers Cara. “The rest will happen if you’re consistent.”

Sweat before sunrise.

Whether it’s a 6am HIIT class or a power walk along the lake, an early morning workout will help greet the day with energy and endorphins.

Sneak in a midday workout.

Sometimes the day calls for an intermission. Get your wiggles out with a lunchtime session at Corner Pilates & Lagree, which offers 11am & 12pm class times throughout the week. “Lagree’s low impact style makes it approachable for so many people,” says Corner trainer Steph Bessert. “The workout is always challenging and leaves you feeling strong and motivated. Lagree, like life, doesn’t get easier, but we get stronger!”

Decompress after work.

“Some people are just not morning people,” says Lindsay. “It’s all about what time of day works for you.” Post-workday class times are aplenty at both studios. Transition after a long day at the office—or break up the monotony of working from home—with some self-care to chill out or gain that second wind.

Make it a date.

Who says working out together isn’t romantic? Grab your partner for a Pilates duet or your favorite group fitness class and cap the date with a couple’s infrared sauna session.

Skip the drinks but meet at the barre.

Lindsay’s Barre Booty class on Wednesday nights is the perfect healthy Hump Day treat with your bestie.

Don’t hit pause on the weekends.

Rest days are always a good idea, but completely checking out on the weekends can make it harder to reset come Monday. Pencil in a little movement, like Sunday yoga, for example, to stay balanced.

Track your progress.

Whether counting steps or calories burned, a fitness tracker can help motivate you to start moving and quantify personal fitness goals.
