If you’ve taken Lindsay Perrigan’s classes at The Corner, you know that she’s a ball of energy and a genuine motivator. Her cheerfulness is inspiring and infectious—we’re all thinking, I’ll have what she’s having. Naturally, she has a lot to say about food. As a certified integrative nutrition health coach, Lindsay believes we can achieve lifelong healthy eating with baby steps. “There’s no quick fix,” she says. “Baby steps are going to give you the lifestyle change.”
Whether you’re looking to simply eat cleaner or need a complete diet overhaul, Lindsay offers customized individual and group nutrition coaching. Lindsay not only imparts her formal knowledge (Institute for Integrative Nutrition), but also shares insight gained through her personal experiences, empowering clients to eat well for life. “It helps that I’ve been there,” she says, referring to her relatable experience with yo-yo dieting. “I know it well.”
A self-proclaimed gym rat since the age of 16, Lindsay is no stranger to challenging her body. She has been a fitness instructor for over 20 years, teaching everything from Zumba and Step to Kickboxing and Kettlebells. In 2014, she embarked on a new fitness experiment—body building. After winning second place in her first show, she competed again the following year and won first place. The itch to continue life on stage lasted several years until unforeseen surgeries swayed her to stop.
Lindsay’s priorities shifted: “I wanted to eat to live, to have more energy, to be strong. I was no longer eating for visual appearance. I was eating to feel my best.”
Healthy eating is about more than putting food in our mouths; rather, it’s about cultivating healthy habits and understanding what else in our lives might be holding us back. Lindsay considers other aspects of life, including family, work, and how one deals with stress to shed light on eating patterns. “I become a detective!” she says.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Homework. Between sessions clients start journaling, food logging, and fulfilling exercise goals. Lindsay says, “We’ll make two or three tweaks, check in after two weeks, then take a deeper dive.”
Pantry Cleanout. “I never want an individual to feel deprived,” says Lindsay. Instead, she suggests replacing certain foods with healthier alternatives. Are you a texture person or a sweet/salty fanatic? Lindsay works with clients to figure out what foods will live up to satiety standards and be successful in one’s diet.
Supermarket Day. Shop with Lindsay at your grocery store. The client fills a cart with their usual foods, while Lindsay seeks healthier substitutes. “We learn the store and what else is available,” she says. “It forces you to change your ways.”
