SPRING INTO ACTION WITH THE WHOLE FAMILY

Spring has sprung, and with it comes more opportunities to live healthier and happier. The chirping birds coax an early morning rise, while the longer daylight hours call for after-dinner walks or bike rides. The Corner Studio welcomes the season of new beginnings by making healthy changes in our fitness and wellness journeys. Our March ad in the Grosse Pointe News highlights the small ways we can adopt a healthier lifestyle this month and going forward—from eating a more colorful diet to shaking up workouts and being active outdoors.

One thing we truly value at The Corner is family. This year especially, with many of us clocking in overtime on family time, we’ve learned to appreciate one another, support and inspire others in our situation, and that life is better when we’re moving together. (Workouts with a sibling, partner, or friend totally burn more calories because you’re more likely to be sharing some laughs along the way!)

We caught up with Corner trainer Jo Kutchey about ways to get out there and move with the whole family.

What are some fun and easy ways to stay active with kids?

If it’s not below freezing, my family and I walk and bike everywhere! Even if it’s a quick trip to the market, a few little walks here and there in your day add up. Spending time at our beautiful Grosse Pointe parks and playgrounds offers a great change of scenery and exercise without feeling like exercise.

How can you get the whole family involved in daily exercise?

This has been a CRAZY year, and so many of us have been thrown off our workout game/life routine. With three children (ages six, five, and two), I have all different abilities to accommodate. When my husband and I are dying for a workout but have all of our kids in tow, we get the girls on their bikes, put my youngest in the jogger stroller, and hit the pavement for a run! Walking works, too!

We also bought an awesome cheap buggy attachment for my bike, which the little one can ride in, so the five of us can bike around town together.

With different ages and abilities, how do you keep everyone going?

Our key to keep moving with all three kids has been having a great walking/running stroller. This way, if one (or two!) tire out, they can rest and ride along. Also bringing fun and healthy snacks and water wherever we go helps to break up the activity and keep everyone energized.

Don’t forget to take advantage of all that’s happening at The Corner Studio this month. Our New Client offers (4 classes for $50; 3 private Pilates sessions for $179) and Spring Renewal Sauna promo (4 sessions for $50) are great reasons to pay us a visit. Attending class will extend beyond a calorie burn, as all month long each class you take automatically donates $1 to The Children’s Foundation

Retail therapy is always effective in creating a sunnier outlook! Peruse our colorful racks of spring athleisure—from brands like Beach Riot, Year of Ours, and Beyond Yoga

Lastly, try our refreshing spring smoothie recipe to start your day or as a post-workout replenisher.

  • 1/2 cup vanilla greek yogurt

  • 1 banana

  • 1 cup berries of your choice

  • 1 cup milk of your choice

  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds

  • handful of ice (alternatively, you can use frozen fruit instead of fresh and eliminate the need for additional ice)

See You at The Corner!
